How to read a masala label (and what to avoid)

Turn a packet of masala around and the ingredient list can be surprisingly long. Here's how we read one.
Start with the first ingredient
Ingredients are listed from most to least. If the first one isn't a spice, you're paying for something else.
Words to look out for
Anti-caking agents: added so powder flows freely
Colours: added to make it look brighter
Starch or fillers: added to bulk it up
"Flavour" or "flavour enhancer"
Our masalas are only whole spices, roasted and ground in small batches. The list on the label is short because there's nothing else to list.
